BREAKING NEWS: KESSLER FUTURE MAY BE KNOWN AS SOON AS FRIDAY 1/9/09

A reliable source with knowledge of the negotiations at Kessler Hospital has indicated that the future of the facility may be determined as soon as this Friday.

The source noted that there were a minimum of five possibilities for the hospital's future, including agreements with Kennedy Hospital, Kennedy Hospital/Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, AtlantiCare, South Jersey Health Systems, as well as an unnamed for-profit hospital.

The for-profit setting may be the worst possibility for the area served by Kessler due to a relatively high exposure to patients requiring uncompensated care. Those patients would ultimately need to go to other facilities.
